Recently, we’ve had an exceptionally exciting year for celebrity engagements (Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Karlie Kloss, Paris Hilton, Sophie Turner, Emily Ratajkowski, and the list goes on and on!). This many celebrities getting engaged means big changes in engagement ring trends. We’re seeing a shift to fancy shaped stones (Ovals, Pear, Cushion Cuts, etc…), Gemstones as center stones instead of diamonds, and lots of yellow gold! Let’s take a look at some of the most popular celebrity engagement rings and some of the exciting new trends they bring:
Fancy Shapes
Hailey Baldwin. The Biebs does everything in style, so it’s no surprise that he popped the question to his stunning bride-to-be, Hailey, with a (huge) oval-shaped stunner with a delicate band. The Oval center stone is an estimated 7-8 carats, and is thought to have cost Justin over $500,000! Woah! All of the most iconic rings of all time have one thing in common: it’s all about the center stone. I think he definitely achieved this, don’t you??
Sophie Turner. Our favorite Game of Thrones actress wears an understated, yet perfectly chic pear-shaped engagement ring with a double band. The center stone is an estimated 2.5 carats, which is thought to have cost around $30,000-$40,000 (depending on color and clarity). The double band adds an extra unique twist to an already unique center stone choice. An excellent way to be unique while still being timeless! What else would we expect from Sansa Stark??
Karlie Kloss. Long-term boyfriend Josh Kushner popped the question with an estimated 7-8 carat cushion cut center stone, set on a delicate, micro-pave band. This is thought to have cost Mr. Kushner around $200,000! This engagement ring is classicly beautiful, sophisticated, and perfect for her delicate hands. The band is simple without being plain, and doesn’t distract from the showstopping center stone. Cushion cut stones have been sought after for the last hundred years because of their romantic sense of elegance. It’s essentially a hybrid between two of the most popular shaped stones (round and princess)… what’s not to love?
Colored Center Stones
Lady Gaga. Always fashion-forward, Lady Gaga chose a large pink diamond center stone, surrounded by a halo of diamonds. The large pink diamond is estimated to be around 7-8 carats, and the halo of diamonds is thought to be around 2-3 carats. This ring reminds us of a different take on Kate Middleton’s large sapphire center surrounded by a halo of diamonds! Such a classic look, while making sure to stay unique. Other than the fact that it’s HUGE, the vibrant color of the center stone really demands the attention of everyone in the room. This is thought to have cost her fiance, Christian Carino, a pretty penny (around $300,000)… wow!
Gwyneth Paltrow. I guess if you’re GP you can have TWO engagement rings? Anyway, she made a splash when she debuted ring #2 (a HUGE round sapphire engagement ring with diamonds in the band). Just a casual 8 carat round center stone, with tiny diamonds sprinkled along the band. Anything she does, we listen… so I guess big round sapphires are the thing now! Definitely a show-stopper.
Yellow Gold
Emily Ratajkoswski. An asymmetrical, two-stone engagement ring featuring a thick yellow gold band definitely commands attention. A two carat princess cut and a 3 carat pear are set next to each other in this trend-setting design. Set on yellow gold, with a thick gold band to accessorize with, this is a seriously gorgeous pair. What else would we expect from Emily Ratajkowski? Rumored to have cost around $90,000… it’s definitely a head turner.
Meghan Markle. A dazzling three stone engagement ring featuring a yellow gold band. The meaning of three stone engagement rings is so perfect for the occassion: meant to symbolize past, present, and future. In Meghan and Harry’s case especially, the meaning definitely fits: with the two side stones coming from Princess Diana’s personal collection of diamonds, and the center stone from Botswana representing their future and all of the plans they have to do work there. According to Harry, he wanted Princess Diana to always be with them on this journey together, and yellow gold was an easy choice because it has always been Meghan’s favorite! Since Meghan is now one of the most influental people in the world, we think it’s safe to say that yellow gold will be in style for a very, very long time!
“The way Rachel and Victoria took care of me when looking for a special engagement ring that wasn’t something picked off the shelf was amazing. They really know how to translate what’s in your mind into an actual ring that can be put on your finger!”
