It’s officially 2020! Woah! As we reflect on 2019 and all of the beautiful trends we saw last year, we’re starting to look ahead now to see what anticipate will be some of the most popular engagement ring trends in this new year. We’ve pulled some sales data as well as the expert opinions of our specialists to make some educated predictions of what will be the engagement ring trends 2020. Keep reading to find out.
1) Yellow Gold
Yellow gold was big in 2019, and we see it staying that way. With former Bachelorettes Jojo Fletcher and Rachel Lindsay both choosing yellow gold, we think the traditional metal is staying in the spotlight in 2020. Yellow gold’s warm tone pairs wonderfully with classic and vintage inspired styles. *Think solitaires and Three Stone Rings*… Also, looks good on all skin tones and hair colors.
2) Elongated Diamond Shapes
Elongated cuts – like oval, emerald, elongated cushion – have continued to rise immensely in popularity over the second half of last year. In fact, Pinterest trends indicated searches for ‘elongated cushion engagement rings’ are up 143%. With major celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Katherine Schwarzenegger, and Bindi Irwin choosing these types of rings, we expect these super chic styles to remain popular in 2020.
3) Solitaires with Tiny, Understated Detailing
More and more couples are choosing engagement rings that feature subtle but effective details that offer just a tiny bit of individuality and extra sparkle. Subtle elements like hidden halos have been skyrocketing in popularity since they offer that little bit of extra sparkle from all angles, but put the focus on the center diamond and really allow the rings delicate features to take center stage.
4) Delicate Halos
Heading into 2020, halo designs will continue to be extremely popular for their elegant and glamorous feel. A classic halo adds the perfect amount of extra sparkle to a center stone, and makes it appear larger and more brilliant overall. A delicate or seamless halo achieves the same look, but the halo is brought in tighter so there are no gaps between the center stone and the halo. Often achieved by using smaller diamonds in the halo. It’s the perfect way to add size and sparkle to a ring in 2020.
5) Fancy Shaped Side Stones
Thanks to the royals, side stone accents got a lot of attention this past year (Meghan Markle’s iconic three-stone engagement ring and Princess Beatrice’s baguette flanked show stopper). However, we predict this engagement ring trend of fancy shaped side stone accents will continue to reign supreme. To replicate this trend, look for an art deco-inspired look with tapered baguette diamonds. For something more modern, maybe consider a round or oval stone with marquise or trillion shaped diamond accents.
6) Fancy Shaped Eternity Bands
Individuality is becoming more and more popular with each year that passes (thank goodness! It keeps our job interesting!). Because of this, we see a rise in popularity of eternity bands as a glamorous and elegant alternative to a classic engagement ring. Featuring a row of diamonds and maximum sparkle from all angles, eternity bands – especially those featuring popular fancy shaped cuts like oval or emerald – are the perfect choice for a bride who dreams of a completely unique statement ring.
7) Stacked and Shadow Rings
In this upcoming year, we anticipate the majority of brides will continue to lean towards more classic engagement ring styles, but will spice up their look with stacks of sparkling bands – like Hailey Bieber’s double shadow wedding band set, which accents her beautiful Oval shaped engagement ring from above and below. Whether diamond-accented, curved, or crescent shaped, these bands are the perfect complement to any engagement ring, since they allow maximum expression of personal style as well as provide that extra angle of sparkle.
8) Floating Shared Prong
Shared prong style rings give the illusion of being made of a band of floating diamonds. These dainty, delicate, sparkling rings have been some of the most loved on Pinterest in 2019. Especially when paired with a round or oval center stone. We predict that this engagement ring trend will continue to grow more and more popular in 2020.

“The way Rachel and Victoria took care of me when looking for a special engagement ring that wasn’t something picked off the shelf was amazing. They really know how to translate what’s in your mind into an actual ring that can be put on your finger!”
